| Food Security and Agricultural Marketing |
According to “World Food Summit Plan of Action, 1996”; Food securityexists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food for a healthy and active life. Food security varies according to people’s livelihoods, their location, their social status, the time of year and the nature of the disaster and associated responses.
Agricultural marketing is also a process where the producer, the processor, the distributor and the consumer can play own part to satisfy their needs. Food security problem can possibly associate with production failure or inefficiency of agricultural marketing systems or some other factors. If markets are poorly connected it will also have an impact in affecting the livelihood of the market dependent people. Therefore, GeoSAS is providing services mainly in the following areas:-
- Food security monitoring and early warning,
- Development of a strategy for stakeholders on how to understand the agricultural marketing system in the highly food insecure pastoral and marginal agricultural livelihood areas,

- Analyze the behavior of food prices using time-series data for assisting planners, policy and decision makers while making intervention plans in addressing the needs of the affected,
- Provide training on how to analyze market information for food security monitoring,
